no flying cows :(

I think I remember Wizard of Oz having this: flying cows, you know how they have that in some movies and you see this cow flying in the sky and the sound effects guys put in a MOO for fun? I was hoping I'd see a cow flying in the sky here due to hurricane Wilma, but that didn't happen. Hurricane Wilma came and left and I'm still alive :)

Preparation? Tried putting up those shutters, but we live on the second floor and we don't have a ladder, and the neighbour's ladder wasn't tall enough so we went shutterless for the hurricane :) The power was gone nice and early on Monday morning at 7am. By 10am the hurricane was in full effect by us going till about 3pm. Of course then came the fun part of no electricity/power/current (whatever you call it). My neighbour has a generator, and a 100 foot extension cord, so he lent us the cord and we plugged in to his generator. That was good for the night, we got to have a light on and keep the refrigerator going :)

The electricity wasn't back on Tuesday morning, but it was here by about 3pm. I went driving around before that looking for gas for the generator. No traffic lights and orderly traffic? That's amazing in my book. Of course no electricity means the gas stations can't pump gas. Well there was electricity like 10 minutes away from us, and there was a nice long line for gas, but this was a line forming with cars coming from the interstate exit. Not being a fan of waiting in long lines, and this gas station being one connected to a mall, I drove to the back of the mall and entered the gas station from the mall entrance, a lot shorter line, I had to wait for about 3 cars instead of 30-40 cars. Of course I didn't need the gas, since the power came back and there is no use for the generator but it was better be safe than sorry.

There also is a curfew if your county doesn't have electricty, from sun down to sun up, about 7pm - 6am. They've arrested 14 people in the first night of the curfew. And school is closed for the week. Pictures of the hurricane damage in the community I live it
